Shade Tree Program
Please be advised: the below Shade Tree Program is closed and has been completed. There is potential for another program in the future, but not at this time. Please use the lists below to learn more about the trees that are recommended to thrive in Avon-by-the-Sea!
The Avon Environmental Commission is offering shade trees for sale to be planted at the end of May or beginning of June 2023.
After consulting with the NJ Shade Tree Foundation, Rutgers and surrounding community Shade Tree Commissions, the Avon Avon Environmental Commission has created a list of appropriate and available trees for Avon streets.
The trees will be 2” to 2 ½” caliper and 10’ to 12’ tall. Each tree will cost $385.00 which will include delivery and planting.
Trees are guaranteed for 1 year.
You will be responsible for the gas mark-out (1-800 272-1000) and for watering and caring for the tree after planting.

Shade Trees for Lawns and Streets $385 each
- American Elm (Ulmus americana)
Variety: ‘Valley Forge’
- Little Leaf Linden (TIlia cordata)
Variety: ‘Greenspire’
- Silver Linden (Tilia tomentosa)
Variety: ‘Sterling’
- Swamp White Oak (Quercus bicolor)
Variety: ‘Beacon’
- Red Maple (Acer rubrum)
Variety: ‘October Glory’
Smaller Trees for Under Wires $385 each
- Amur Maachia (Maackia amurensis)
- Red Bud (Cercis canadensis)
Variety: ‘Summers Tower’
- Japanese Tree Lilac (Syringa reticulata)
Variety: ’Ivory Silk’
Checks should be made out to: Borough of Avon-by-the-Sea
