About the Avon Municipal Court
The Municipal Court is a quasi-criminal court of limited jurisdiction that is under the supervision of the Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC). The Municipal Court staff members are employees of the Borough of Avon-by-the-Sea but are governed by the rules of the court as set down by the State of NJ Supreme Court. The Municipal Court has jurisdiction over all motor vehicle and non-indictable criminal cases such as disorderly person’s offenses, Borough ordinances, S.P.C.A. violations, Fish and Game offenses and Board of Health violations. Indictable charges and Domestic violence complaints are handled in Superior Court.
